general machining

In our well equipped workshop we can tackle a wide range of machining operations and fabrication work including design work and pattern making. From cylinder machining ,wheel turning right through to a full rebuild, we can help you.

This view shows the final turning operation on a 13" diameter wheel for a 10 1/4" gauge tank locomotive . This lathe is a Colchester Triumph 2000 and is capable of handling the largest of any job we undertake.

Here we see a near completed set of wheels ,turned from EN8 steel for long life which will be fitted to the "Western Comet" which we are currently restoring. The  wheel blanks started of life as 270MM diameter  X 40MM .

Here we see the leading bogie partially assembled for checking of bearing and axle alignments.

Here we see a heavy duty 0-6-2 chassis under construction for the Cattle Country Railway, which we once operated. The new owner wanted a steam outline diesel hydraulic locomotive and commissioned us to build the chassis. The dimensions are 30MM thick buffer beams, 8` long and 3` wide.

The project nearing completion waiting for it coupling rods and rear truck.

Here we see the right hand coupling rods complete with intermediate fork joint. To date this is one of the largest loco chassis we have built.
